The Truth Behind self-publishing your Book / La verdad detras de publicar tu libro solo

"$40 dollars? Ok thanks!"...That's what I get from many people when encountered with my book..."why should I spend $40 dollars in a book if there are 1374885 books that cost less than $10?"...you may think...But, there is a lot more behind a hardcover book with 300+ pages that is invisible to the costumer at the point of sale. They can't see the hours, and hours, and hours, and hours, spent writing (putting ideas into words during pregnancy and then with a new born and then with a crazy monkey on-top of my head all day), creating, editing and perfecting every detail by a whole "team" of people (just me and my dearest friend designer and illustrator Natalia Swarz), then hours, and hours, and hours, spent selecting the best paper, the best material the best printing quality, sample after sample, after sample, changing this for that....hours and hours finding the best way to ship those heavy books my way (OMG obviously a cost that wasn't taken into account AT all)....then the hours and hours spent promoting it, trying to sell all the love and dedication and hard work you have dedicated into those pages...There are some good days, and others not so good.. My yearning for everyone to have my book keeps me going, to be able to be in your head and pass along my passion and love for what I do...

Two weeks ago I had the honor of being part of an awesome event by Big City Moms, the biggest baby shower event in the United States! (Lots and lots of information on food, gear, gadgets, technology, all for your little ones!!) It was totally awesome! I was there with my table and my book and I had the chance to talk to a lottttt of people, new people! (I lost count and eneded up with almost no voice) but getting so many sweet words of encouragement and good feedback kept me going and going till the end of the event...and thats what I'll do always! I'll continue my journey motivated and doing this with passion! On 2018 my idea is to keep it up! I'll keep spreading the Food from the Heart Love everywhere I can!

After making my own products from scratch I learnt that there is so much more behind a price tag....I think we are getting so used  to low prices on everything from products that are made by huge industries or outsourced to third world countries where conditions are not the best and prices are crazy low....things produced in small batches, in artisan ways, with love and from the heart, do cost a little more...So lets keep supporting local! (as I mentioned in my last post) we'll support our community and make together a better world starting from your surroundings! 

I also wanted to take this last blogpost of the year to thank YOU, for reading this and for your support all this 2017, YOU are also the reason I keep it up everyday, thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU from the heart. “$40 dólares?” ok gracias!”….Esa es la respuesta que recibo de muchas personas cuando me preguntan por el valor de mi libro… “por que gastar $40 dólares en un libro si puedo encontrar un millón de otros libros a menos de $10?”...depronto pensaran, pero hay tantas cosas que no son visibles por el consumidor en el punto de venta… solo ven un libro de pasta dura con mas de 300 paginas. Lo que no se ve ahí son las horas, y horas, y horas que se fueron en la escrita de este, (poniendo ideas en palabras durante mi embarazo, luego con un recién nacido, y luego con un miquito loco que mantengo trepado en la cabeza), creando, editando, perfeccionando cada detallito por un equipo enormeee de personas (solo mi querida ilustradora, diseñadora y amiga Natalia Swarz y yo), luego las horas, y horas, y horas, que se fueron  seleccionando el mejor papel, los mejores materiales y calidad de impresión, muestra detrás de muestra, detrás de muestra, cambiando esto y lo otro….horas y horas, y horas, buscando la mejor forma de enviar estos pesados libros a mis manos (obviamente costo que nunca tuve en cuenta en mis números)…luego las horas y horas que se van promoviéndolo, tratando de vender todo el amor, dedición y trabajo que fueron plasmados en cada pagina….Hay unos días buenos, otros no tan buenos…pero mi anhelo de que todo el mundo tenga mi libro me mantiene motivada,  me motiva el hecho de poder estar dentro de sus cabezas y contagiarles un poco mi pasión y amor por lo que hago… 

Hace dos semanas tuve el honro de ser parte de un evento increíble en Estados Unidos por Big City Moms, el evento para baby shower mas grande del país (muchísima información para futuras madres y madres primerizas, coches, comida, vitaminas…etc) Yo estuve ahí con mi mesita y mi libro y tuve la oportunidad de hablar con muchsiisisisimas personas! Personas totalmente nuevas ( creo que perdí la cuenta del numero de personas con las que hable, tanto así que casi perdí mi voz!) y lo cierto es que tantos comentarios positivos, apoyo y amor recibido me motivaban a seguir hasta el final del evento….y eso es lo que hare siempre, continuar mi camino motivada y para delante. En el 2018 mi idea es seguir con toda! Compartiendo el amor de Food from the Heart por todo lado!

Después de tener la experiencia de hacer mis propios productos desde 0 aprendí que hay mucho mas allá de el precio final de producto…creo que estamos siendo mal acostumbrados por precios extremadamente bajo de industrias grandísimas que fabrican en países del tercer mundo donde las condiciones no son las mejores para los trabajadores y así logran precios increíblemente bajos….los productos hechos en escalas menores, en formas artesanales y con amor normalmente cuestan un poco mas….así que sigamos apoyando el talento local! Así como lo mencione en el post pasado, de esta forma no solo apoyamos nuestra comunidad sino que empezamos hacer del mundo un lugar mejor desde nuestro alrededor!

También quiero aprovechar la oportunidad para agradecerte, a TI  que lees esto, por el apoyo todo este 2017, TU eres la razón por la que sigo haciendo las cosas con amor todos los días, gracias, gracias, gracias y mil gracias desde el corazón. Espero que estén pasando un fin de ano feliz con su seres queridos….Vamos a hacer magia este 2018! Te le apuntas!? Claro que si!!
